Lunar Eclipse

Yay! The lunar eclipse! It's not going to happen again until December 2010.

-About halfway there. Realizing I could take decent pictures I kept taking a bunch....
-Now it's just a little brightness on the edge.
-Even less now.
-And the full eclipse. Kind of cool you can see Saturn on the lower left and Arcturus on the upper right. Thank you Hugh for my little practical astronomy knowledge at Fort Holmes!

About as close and as clear as I could get. Plus it was freezing outside!

Snow, Sleds, Snowmobiles, Pub Runners and People

Had a winter weekend (with a longer weekend than expected) on the island.

-Michelle getting ready to board the plane for the oh-so-long trip across.
-Michelle and I cozy in the inner seats.
-The bridge in the distance.

-The tip of Mackinac, Round and Bois Blanc islands.
-A cutter ride on the back of the snowmobile from Peggy's family!
-Peggy's ready for the island.
-Little Stone Church in the snow (from the sled).
-Bruce, Amanda and Andrea hoofing it downtown.
-The sunset on the west side.

-Enjoying the Pub Runners at Sinclairs - Ben, Katie, Amanda.

-Sandy and Joe.

-Bruce and Ben deep in discussion.

-Trace and I starting on our usual photo montage.
-Bringing LeeAnn in to the mix.
-Peggy and Michelle getting into trouble at Sinclairs.

Peggy and Michelle on their sled from the "quick" site seeing on the island.
-Through the snowy trails.
-Sandy and I on the second sled having way too much fun.

-Looking over the West Bluff.

-Making snow angels at Great Turtle Park (a good video on you tube of Sandy - link on right side).

-Taking others for a ride (and it was cool then) - Me and LeeAnn - it was pretty cold on the machines.
-A bit o' sledding - finally got Ben out there.
-The bridge with the ice.

-Downtown in the snow at night.

-Holy Smoke! How smoky was it at Sinclairs that night? I'm convinced you can barely see the guys because of the smoke!
-Peggy relieved to get some fresh air and happy to be on the island!

-Soon!
-Peggy's really concentrating on the text message.

-The Pub Runners (see video on you tube).
-Janna and Brianne.
-We're all really excited about pictures!

-Peggy, Doug, me, Sandy and Jerry. The guys got off the island in the morning, but that was the last plane because of freezing rain. The rest of us got stuck on the island for another day, which if you had to get stuck someplace, why not the island?

-Andrea and Amanda really excited for the plane ride back.
-Andrea actually needs a bit of support from her sister.
-The last bit of the island for awhile.

And Wind!

So this is what happens when you combine snow and wind.

-A tall drift in front of the guide shack.
-A drift on the the west side of the palisade.
-A fourteen foot drift in front of the fort.

-Me (blurry) in front of the drift by the guide shack to give perspective.

-One more look...pretty cool.

Snow Again!

More snow, so more snowshoeing. Especially since Jenny was leaving :-(

Atop Red Pine Trail at Wilderness. Lots and lots o'hills!

-Jenny on Big Stone Trail. Really, really close to the water. Sometimes on it (frozen, of course).
-Yet, we saw no big stones.

-More of the ups and downs of Red Pine Trail.

-And at the end we saw these to greet us when were done.

-Goodhart Farms...Jenny's favorite spot.
-Really neat with woods and then fields.
-Jenny's (kind of) cabin in the winter.
