The End of August

A nice Saturday at the Grand and then to Sinclair's for the Pub Runners.

-Who would have thought years ago that the hustle would be done at the Grand?

-Kevin and Linnea came up for the weekend.

-M and I with the traditional move of putting our hands in the lion's mouth.

-Alex and the band, with Ben wailing on the sax.

-Jenn's thought of Joe's pipe.

-I just thought this was funny with the guys singing from one mic. Probably because fort guys took over the other.

-...reminds me of the pictures of the bigger ships porting at the dock.

-At the cove with a freighter coming through.

-Robinson's Folly.

-Clear water and stones.

-Sunday was the Medical Center benefit. Amy, me and Maria.

-Jared and Sandy.

-Trace and I acting like Lemmings. A long story that only a few understand...kind of. I'm running following Trace over a cliff.

-Maria and Heather after the party in the Terrace Room. The best part is Heather didn't have a drink...hence the hurricane glass from the candle in her hand.

-Way too many of these, but a lot of pictures of Heather and I as we listened to the band. This is the surprised look.

-The lion's mouth.

-Alex playing the flute. Just for you Heather.

-I couldn't sleep this morning so I got up for the sunrise. And a little jaunt around the island. My goals are almost there of over 750 miles logged on my bike since June and over 9.5 miles/day on average for August. A LOT of trips around the island.

-Not too shabby - the sunrise from Gitchi Manitou.
-Arch Rock in the sunrise.

Pasties, Pasties and More Pasties

Jenny and I had a pastie making party (only in northern Michigan and only by people who love northern Michigan) for the evening. For more food pictures see the "For The Love of Food" blog link to the right.

-Jenny's cabin.

-The kitchen/dining area and the loft.
-Three beautiful pasties (with Lehto's crusts) - there's were many more!

Hot Carl Blues

100th post for my blog! And what better way to celebrate....

-Hot Carl was back and it was fabulous!

-Will and Nidal started out both nights. Amazing!

-Val and Stephanie eagerly anticipating the duo's performance.

-The band (Hot Carl must be warming up).

-Val and Phil start the dancing.

-Lily and Louie.

-Maria, Shannon, Sandy and me for night two.

-Tiger? Cat? Lion? We were impersonating something.

-Dancing again.
-Jenny, Stephanie, Maria, Peggy and I.

-The hands of fortune.
-Although wonderful, sometimes Hot Carl is just plain confusing.

-The band (with the good singers).
-And this is what we wait for every time.

-Now with a shawl.

We tried to get pictures with the entire band, but settled getting separate pics.
-Will
-Jimmy
-Louie (aka. Hot Carl)

-The drummer (????)
-Nidal

So, by the next day many of us were pretty tired and listless, thinking - there's no dancing and great music. Stephanie left, Jenny went off the island, we all just decided we had the "Hot Carl Blues."

Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer

Not really that lazy, but hot which could make you lazy. But the other two hold true.

-50 years old!!!

-Three sets of fireworks were set off for the 50th anniversary of the Mackinac Bridge. St. Ignace, Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island. This is the island - with the moon.

-We went to the Grand and watched the fireworks from the porch. Here's Heather and Lee enjoying their drinks.

-Heather and I.

-Maria, Shannon, Kim and Claire - Geoff and I in the front. I bet we could've fit one more person (in costume) in my little Neon!

-The Craftie Pyramid at the Commanding Officer's Ball at Michilimackinac.
LeeAnn, Rachael, Sandy (head down), Maria, Shannon, Katie, Brianne, Claire and Amy.

-The island crew.

-LeeAnn and Brett as the musicians.

-This one is a keeper. Jeremy, Troy, Myron and Ed at the Governor's afternoon luncheon.

-The Governor, me and First Gentleman.

-Almost full moon at Biddle's Point.

-Kelli listening to "Fishheads" on my Ipod. Quite enjoying it, too.

-Heather and the everchanging lights outside at the Gatehouse.

-Me and the blue one, of course.

-Lily and I showing the boy scouts where all the muscle is.

-Me and one of my all time favorite scout leaders, Brad.

-A try at an artistic picture, from the northwest sentry box at the fort.

-Peggy and Fr. Rey at one of the best eateries on the island.
-Lily as the stem, with her leaf shirt on and Maria, Shannon and I as the brightly colored blooms.

-Jazzy-winey at the Gatehouse - with three brass players!

-My first attempt at making rope, instruction provided by the illustrious Fitzwater, made from grass in the Biddle yard.

-Peggy's 24th - with Trace and Bruce at Seabiscuit.

-Blake and Phil. There Blake, finally on the blog. On a blog, with a cell phone, on facebook and with a digital camera. You've come a long way, baby!

-We've had many a hazy day on the island. None as strange as this freak cloud that blew and and out within a half hour.
