Kind of Spring

Spring has been kind of...well, really cold in the north. Even from the mainland to the island. Mostly in the 40s and 50s and a lot of clouds and fog.

-A dark sky with light from the south.

-The Detroit Boys came up ...Dan and Tom.
-And Kim came with them. A lot of fun with all of them.
-Memorial Day service at the Post Cemetery. More on You Tube.

-What most of the rest of the day looked like.
-My first trip around the island and then I got up close to the Highlander Sea (with the fort in the background, of course).

Seven Things

Image borrowed fromhttp://quiltedturtle.blogspot.com

I was tagged by Liz for a Seven Things Meme. I'd heard of meme before, but had to look it up (you'd think I'd know!).
So, I'm going to do it and here are the rules:
1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
2. Share seven facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag seven people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Seven Things About Me
1. I grew up in a place reminiscent of the 1920s, 1950s, 2010s (well, not yet) and the Andy Griffith Show. Climbing trees, playing in bales of straw and bulk apple boxes, working in the garden and on the farm, raising pets, everyone on my road was related, yelling across the road to Uncle Bill, going to church, school, grandmas for weeks until a big trip into "town," going to school in a red brick schoolhouse where I ended up graduating in 8th grade in a class of 4, having a huge family and yet with all that "simple life," having the first VCR, always having the latest computers and knowing what was going on in the world.

2. My brother and I used to have fun reading encyclopedias. We still have a friendly competition of who knows more (he always said he did). Also who's been more places (states, countries and continents).

3. I'm really into presidents - reading about them, visiting their homes, etc. My favorite is TR. The same could be said about my Laura Ingalls Wilder obsession.

4. I really like to travel (see #2 and rest of the blog) - instilled in me by my family, friends and love of maps. The travel/map thing, I believe, runs in the family.

5. I don't like rollarcoasters, spinning things or really fast rides. I'm all about the ferris wheels and anything that takes you really high. Just as long as they don't plummet to the ground.

6. I like brushing my teeth. Jenny, can you say the same? My sister rolls her eyes when I ask for toothpaste for Christmas.

7. I once broke my finger playing softball. I didn't really know about it then, but a few years later it was confirmed. I broke my toe at the fort a couple of years ago - not fun on the island. I don't have a cool picture of the x-ray like Liz. I do have a kind of distorted finger because of the first injury though. Considering my bruising ability and un-gracefulness, I'm surprised I haven't hurt myself more.

I am tagging Stephanie, Jenny, Geoff, the Presidential Hotties site (hoping Jenny and Stephanie will help me with this), Donielle, Trace and Mike.

Spring 08

It's May and things are a-bustlin' everywhere.

-Bruce and Jill after Bruce's last day working for MSHP.
-Lily and her lively self.
-Bruce in the new Mustang on opening night.

-The island on the way back on the last boat.
-The bridge with the sun setting behind it.
-Now that the snow has melted, it's back to riding the bike. This is along the rails-to-trails segment in Cheboygan. Some kind of marker.
-Flowers blooming even though the trees are still in hibernation.
-Close up of the marsh marigolds.
-Grape hyacinths.
-The few tulips I have.

-And last but not least is Justin's First Communion. The grandparents and great-grandparents went out east to see it all.
