Jazzy-Winey, the Grand and the Pub Runners.

Every Tuesday night, the Grand Hotel musicians go to the Gatehouse and play jazz. You can also get 1/2 off bottles of wine. Together - Jazz and Wine Night at the Gatehouse.

-Heather and her buffalo nuggets.

-Shannon enjoys her first jazzy-winey.

-Carolyn and Peggy

-Trace acting as a manatee. Pretty good, but check out Heather in the back.

-A picture from one of my many bikes around the island.

-Heather, me and Peggy at the Grand Terrace Room for dancing.

-Heather and I. Not quite sure what we were trying to do.

-The non-dancers were with the Pub Runners at Sinclair's. Ben and Geoff.

-The incoherent Pub Runners. At least by the time I saw them! (Sorry Doug - the 80s tunes tipped me off).

-Ben, Kim (with the broken wing) and Geoff. I guess the Restroom sign is the new hangout.

G Mennen Williams and Lilac Parade

The G Mennen Williams Event started out at the Captain's and Major's Quarters at the fort. Then on to the Grand for a fabulous dinner (pics on the food blog):
-Sheryl and Ben.

-Linnea and Kevin.

-Me looking sad since I didn't get a picture of the salad and Steve questioning why I look sad...

-Ben and Brian at the Gatehouse afterward.

-Poppies at South Sally.

-A type of columbine on North Bicycle Trail.

-Claire, Maria and Brianne striking a pose before the parade.

-The soldiers of ol' Fort Mackinac.

-The fort's float...with Lily as the fairy godmother.

-Hmmm...I wonder how Heather really feels about the Grand float that has Ben on it....

-The coolest of them all...Fr. Rey and his jaunty beret.

-And the Scottville Clown Band closing out the parade, as always.

A Bit of US-2 and the Island

Jenny and I took my day off (after a bit of stress with keys and getting back and forth to Cheboygan) and cruised across the bridge and down US-2 on a very nice summer day.

-First stop, Lehto's Pasties (since 1947!), one of the best.

-A panorama of the beach.

-And to celebrate, Jenny brought fun plates.

-Fun Hats for the both of us...

-A little bit of "Pure Michigan." Yay!

-Cut River Bridge.

-And for some reason, this is really funny...Ariel and Belle cookies and the bridge. With the "Fish Heads" song, it was brilliant!

-A rainbow over the island!

-A foggy morning in Haldimand Bay.

-...and at the fort!

-The new crew for 2007: Lily, Rachael, Maria, LeeAnn, Brianne, Amy and Claire.

-Dennis' retirement party at Audie's. Actually, this is the afterglow as only Dennis can do, with great musicians and music: Brent, Hugh, Carter, ?Gary?, Jim, Dennis, Ken.

May Fun and Flowers

- Heading to the Post Cemetery for the Memorial Day (Decoration Day) Observance. The soldiers march from Fort Mackinac to the Post Cemetery, with the ladies following.

-The girls, Maria going to lay the wreath on Capt. Clitz's grave. The soldiers fire a salute after Phil gives a short talk. Short, sweet and meaningful.

- Back to Cheboygan for a bit...a flowering almond bush (thanks Mom).

-Bleeding hearts.

-Azealas!

-Orange and...

...yellow irises.

-With the mild temps, lilacs are a-bloomin'! From Marquette Park to the Arnold Line dock.

-French Lane.

-The best little garden on French Lane (even a teacup left on the chair).

-On my way past Wilderness State Park, some buttercups and Indian paintbrush. A car stopped and I got to help a German girl with her visiting father (she's an au pair in Detroit) get to 119, which is very tricky. So I talked to them and had them follow me to where they needed to go. I even got a "Guten Tag" in there. The rest of my German is irrelavent, silly things that are best left to friends and b-ball courts!

-Had lunch with Jenny at Legs Inn. The best new thing is that it finally got a historical marker in 2003...

...and the flip side is in Polish!

-A northern Michigan staple.

-Jenny with her lima bean soup (notice the butter). More pics on the food blog, linked to the right.
